Mushrooms!

IMPORTED POST FROM OLD BLOG. ORIGINAL DATE: 08/10/2007

On Sunday I went to a course on Growing Edible Woodland mushrooms at the Woodland Enterprise centre. It was really interesting, I didn't know that there was so much cool stuff to know about them!
Biggest and most scary thing - the mushrooms that we buy in the supermarkets, mostly come from Europe somewhere and have 3 carcinigenic properties.... if thats how you express it! its not good for us, basically! The other thing is that we should never eat raw mushrooms, our bodies can't digest it, cooking them releases the nutrients to us.
We should eat Oyster Musrooms, Shiitake and the like - they have nova statins in them which is excellent for lowering cholestoral and all the vitamin B group too. They have B12 which was previously believed to only be in animals.
Where can you buy these mushrooms?
well.... from next year, from me!
