Pond, chainsaws and a pole lathe

IMPORTED POST FROM OLD BLOG. ORIGINAL DATE: 20/10/2007

Sorry for the lack of updates this week, we've both been busy - Tracy's been making jam, chutney, and cleaning up some coppice stumps for us to sell, while I've spent the last two days on a chainsaw training course - there's another four days to do next week as well! The first two days have mostly been on maintenance - there's a lot to do to keep a chainsaw sharp and in good working order. Next week we'll get on to cross-cutting and then tree felling. Here's Tracy's jam:

Last week we built a pond, with my brother's help, here's some pictures of it after 1 day and 3 days filling:

As you can see it is filling up, but only slowly. We're going up this afternoon to collect some more coppice stumps to clean, so will get another photo then...

The other job we finished this week was the pole lathe, which is now up in the wood, ready to be assembled for use. Here's the final stages of assembly:

As you can see in that last photo, ther birds came out to watch the work - Tom was nervous, but Pete enjoyed it, and sang for us!
